I perform, therefore I am (2011), The Substation, Singapore SG
Just before the R.I.T.E.S. event organised by Lee Wen and Kai Lam at The Substation, Singapore, I presented an unauthorised performance.
My intention was to express - through action - something about power imbalances.
For the occasion, I had a t-shirt made that read I PERFORM THEREFORE I AM, a paraphrase of Descartes' famous statement. I also invited the audience to participate by writing on the t-shirt, so I attached two pens to my shoulders, allowing anyone who wished to add their own marks. Lee Wen and Kai Lam did not oppose my intervention and ultimately even approved of it.
