Untitled (2012), S.P.A.M., Bukit Brown Cemetery, Singapore SG
In Bali, worshippers cover trees with cloth as a sign of reverence, to make offerings, or to seek blessings from the deities or spirits believed to inhabit them.
When SPAM decided to meet at Bukit Brown Cemetery, I noticed many banyan trees and felt a connection to Bali. The peaceful atmosphere of the cemetery in Singapore and this connection inspired me to engage in an action with a white cloth, tearing it to reveal its power and create sound within the still silence of the place.
